I wanted out

September 6th, 2006 by Stephen Schaf · No Comments

Honestly, I’ve always wanted out of Indiana. I have always been one who itches for what’s next, so I did run rapidly to the West coast for nearly 8 years. What was I escaping? At the time–way back in the early 80’s with my Flock of Seagulls coif–I simply wanted to be free to create, be creative and STILL flourish. Indiana, back then, was not the spot. So, you wonder, why *I* choose Indy today? Well, the culture and mentality of the city has indeed changed to be one that is increasingly open and accepting of the Floridian “creative class.” There is a more cultured aspect to Indy (including contemporary art, fringe performances and simply a more cosmopolitan sense). Did I just say “cosmopoitan” to describe Indy? Wow. Never thought I’d see this day. But we may not BE there entirely (not like that little island of Manhattan), but we’re bringing summa that taste here. It takes each of us to bring it here, no matter how odd, freakish or “different” it might seem. Watch out, it’s coming–and I’m not speaking necessarily of a big Colts plow straight to the Superbowl (but that could happen, too). Rather, I elude to a change of the guard. One that accepts style, grace, passion and uniqueness in business and lifestyle. There’s is truly more than corn in Indiana–nowadays at least.
