I love Indy because of how it moves and changes. You can feel the energy as people work to make this a world class city!
Of course, I had a front row seat at the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. That’s where I developed this “cheerleader sound” that I just can’t seem to shake. But how lucky I was to be hands-on behind the scenes with business leaders, volunteers and local elected officials to see how things really work. Indianapolis is famous for its volunteer spirit, and its commitment to public-private partnerships. Take a look at the skyline….that’s how it got done. From a vibrant downtown to active sports arenas to the arts and a pro-business philosophy…this town rocks!
If I had a nickel for every time someone says “it’s a big city but it feels like a small town” I’d be rich.
I also had the privilege of thirteen years at United Way of Central Indiana. Talk about a can-do spirit. UWCI is directed by hundreds - and I mean hundreds - of volunteers from all walks of life to help local charities help those in need.
So how’d I end up in politics? Long story, but my message is simple: at the end of the day most elected leaders in Indianapolis and in the region want to do what’s best for this city. Everyone who holds public office is aware that we compete in a national and global economy. Obviously, there are times when they fight about issues and make decisions that we may not agree with. But they care - I’ve seen it firsthand for almost twenty years. Pay attention and - whether you agree or disagree - thank them for what they do.
Indianapolis is my town. I am so proud to call it home. It’s alive - it has a life of its own. Do a little ‘hands on’ and you will see for yourself. Get going!

Very optimistic view - I refer to my earlier post that things around here “might” get done but often after deadline, over budget and with lengthy excuses when both happen, which is often. The library and new stadium are just a few examples of what looks and feels like incompetence beyond belief.
We just returned from five glorious days in Washington D.C., where we lived before arriving here, and oh my do I miss a “real” big city, with a “real” big city attitude that DOES get things done - on time, under budget and well done.
We hope to Get going! away from here as soon as we can and hope that all others take a peek behind the scenes and see this small town for what it really is -
a small town that yearns to be a more….
