Why Indy Rocks

October 4th, 2006 by Erin Albert · No Comments

I am a native Hoosier…born and raised in South Bend. I went to Butler (and now ironically teach there) and lived briefly out east, but came back home. All my friends outside the state (and I have more friends outside than in state) can’t believe I live in one of the ’square’ states. But I dig it, and here’s why: it’s home.

I’ve been attempting to apply some east coast/west coast weirdness (aka social networking) to Indy in an organization I started called Yuspie (Young, urban single professionals of Indiana.) It’s a more secure social networking organization for singles here in Indy. I like to think of it as a chamber of commerce for singles - they can use it for social, personal and business networking purposes all in one.

My friends out east and west often ask with vigor how yuspie.com is going. I have to say it’s been an interesting experience starting up something a little new & different here locally. I truly believe there are young professionals here that are open to new ideas and trying new things. This is the 12th largest major metropolitan city in the country, yet it shows up on the bottom of the Forbes list for singles every year. I personally hope to change that.

A young urban professional can own Indy –literally. My friends out east barely can afford their own rent, while I live in a house that I own. I can run two businesses here and still have money left over to go out if I choose to…that is the true beauty of this city. It’s a big city with a small town price tag!
