A recent business trip to Manhattan reminded me of why I continue to choose Indy. New York can be a real adrenaline rush of sights, sounds and tastes. But I don’t have to go to the Big Apple for my culture anymore. Indianapolis increasingly offers many of the things New York City has – a growing arts and cultural scene, diverse neighborhoods, great independently owned restaurants and bars, a local music scene, and ethnic festivals year round.
It’s what Indianapolis has that NYC doesn’t that keeps me in the Midwest. We have trees and green space, fresh air, clean streets and no brazen rats. We have Hoosier Hospitality, which is more than just a hokey tagline. Indianapolis offers customer service that includes eye contact and a smile. I often take these things for granted until I travel.
I’m proud to raise my family and operate my business in Indianapolis. Indianapolis universities have challenged me to think in different ways. Civic leaders are willing to act as mentors to guide my career and my family. Through its people, this city has invested in my successes, financially and spiritually. Indy’s state-of-art hospitals and hospices have treated my relatives through cancer, strokes, death and birth. The city also has provided me with many ways to give back, through volunteering and philanthropy.
So while I love to travel, I also love coming home to Indianapolis. These are just some of the reasons why I keep coming back.
