I Choose Indy!

I’ve been keeping this idea to myself, thinking that I was onto something big…then I discovered that Louisville (among others) has been doing it for several years now…

The “Idea Festival” held last week in Louisville attracts the “creative class” to the city. It gives them a free sample of what life is like while simultaneously positioning Louisville as forward thinking and progressive. They’re even blogging about it! Right on!!

We should do this in Indy ASAP. An event like this in Indy would demonstrate, better than any advertsing campaign or tag line ever could, exactly what Indianapolis wants to show to the world. We are a smart, progressive community and a great place to live. We should begin to plan IMMEDIATELY our own version.

So I’m giving up the dream of “owning” this conference - Indy Unconference, or Open Source Mashup, or whatever we call it - and I’m inviting you to join me to plan and execute.

The bad news is we’re copying other cities. The good news is, a workable model has already been established. All that’s left is to put Indy’s unique flavor on it. Thankfully, Indy is EXCELLENT at events. So we’ve got that going for us.

Consider this is a call for volunteers to form a planning committee. (This must be importat to me because I HATE committees).
