Indianapolis hosted 21.7 million visitors in 2005, a 5-percent boost over the year before, the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association announced today. Visitors spent $3.3 billion on hotel rooms, shopping, food and entertainment, among other things.

Other highlights from the association’s State of Tourism report this morning at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art shows tourism generated $734 million in local, state and federal taxes. In addition, hospitality workers earned $1.8 billion in wages.
