Pack The Pews On Colts Super Bowl Sunday Feb 4, 2007

January 24th, 2007 by Rene Longoria · 4 Comments

Attention Indianapolis Colts Fans and Blue Crew Members:

My Pastor may be the last person in Indy to FINALLY become an Indianapolis Colts NFL fan. My 60-year old, female pastor at Bethel United Methodist Church, in Indy, has never been to a Colts game and has never watched the Colts on TV. I joined the church in August after a year-long search for a new church home. Little did I know what was to come next.

Pastor Andrea Leininger notified me that she wants to “Pack The Pews” of the church for “Souper Bowl Sunday” (Feb 4, 2007) with COLTS FANS for both services and do a canned soup drive for community food pantries in Indy. As part of the church services, she invites all Colts fans to wear their team colors/jerseys/etc, she is willing to wear Colts attire for the first time ever, she will allow donors to paint her face blue and spray her hair blue, she will do a Colts cheer during the announcements, run through the aisles with a football and even say a prayer specifically for a Colts’ win on Super Bowl Sunday (yes Peyton, it’s ok to pray for things like this). Pastor Leininger says she will give Colts fans what they want while filling the church, being “a fool for Christ” as she puts it.

Go ColtsBethel United Methodist Church is located at 5252 West 52nd Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46254 (just east of Lafayette Road and 52nd Street). The church of 300+ members has services at 9am and 1030am every Sunday. Cans of soup (or cash donations) may be dropped off at the church on Souper Bowl (she loves that name) Sunday.

So rally up Colts fans across the country, across the city. Do The Blue, Pack The Pews, Bring A Canned Soup Item For Local Food Pantries Or Send Cash, Pray For Victory, Worship On Souper Bowl Sunday at Bethel United Methodist Church, Feb 4th!

Can you believe that Bethel Church is in THE SAME ZIP CODE as the headquarters of the Indianapolis Colts office and training facility?

Any suggestions, donations or spreading of the news is appreciated!

Pastor Andrea Leininger can be contacted directly at 317.293.1133 or via cell 317.213.5646.

Great idea, but I think more churches should promote and encourage their members to hold and attend Superbowl parties in their neighborhoods and get to know their neighbors. We’d do much more good for the Kingdom by actually befriending and getting to know our neighbors than by ONLY inviting them to church when we think about it.

I love this; “Jocks for Jesus”! Great idea. And as a former youth minister in the Orthodox Church, our young people need role models who are spirit-filled and can have a “holy good time” at the same time. Nothing wrong with enjoying life fully. . . even if it’s cheerin on our Indianapolis Colts.

I absolutely love the idea of a soup drive as well. God bless you efforts. And consider me there with you all in spirit on Super Bowl Sunday!

This sounds like lots of fun! I have to be on this side of town that day for an art show at Bjava. I might as well make a day of it and attend church!
Rene why don’t you make a poster for me to put up at the coffee shop?
