Remember in grade school, on the first week back from summer vacation, every teacher would give the same writing prompt: “What I did on my summer vacation.” I spent last week with over 14 high school students that can answer that question, “On my summer vacation I helped raise close to $4000 for Riley Children’s Hospital.”

During the week long Indianapolis Tennis Championships, students from Carmel High School, Lawrence North High School, Brownsburg High School, Arsenal Tech High School and IUPUI, together gave over 120 hours of their summer vacation to raise over $3800 dollars for Riley Children’s Hospital.

These students took a first step into a rich history of Indianapolis residents that give back to our great community. During the month of May over 6000 people volunteer with the 500 Festival. Each year thousands of local folks give their time and talent with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful to do just that, keep Indianapolis beautiful. Hundreds volunteer every month at Second Helpings to prepare thousands of meals for other local non-profits.

I choose Indy because there are literally hundreds of ways each week for me to personally make our community world class. To find your place to help Indy, check out helpindyonline.com!
