The Indianapolis Cultural Trail: A Legacy of Gene & Marilyn Glick announces another public art installation. “Moving Forward,” by Indianapolis-based architect Donna Sink, is a series of three custom-designed eco-friendly bus shelters that will showcase original poetry by published writers. The shelters will be located along the Cultural Trail on the south side of Virginia Avenue near Lexington Street, McCarty Street and Woodlawn Avenue.

Each shelter will be comprised of ecoresin panels, which are made using 40% post-industrial re-grind content, mounted in a stainless steel frame. The shelters will be installed on TX Active photocatalytic cement pads. These pads will be self-cleaning and will help reduce many pollutants deemed harmful to human health and the environment.

Download the call for poets here or call 317.713.3333 for more information about the Cultural Trail public art program.

A call for poetry begins this week and submissions are due November 22, 2009. Published poets living in or with ties to Indiana are invited to submit work based on subjects such as community, neighborhoods, landmarks, shared spaces, transportation, history and the future. Poets must have published at least one poem in a print magazine or anthology prior to submitting work for “Moving Forward.” Selected poems may have been published previously.

The Alliance of Area Business Publications over the weekend named IBJ the nation’s best large-market weekly business journal. The gold medal was among six awards the newspaper received during the association’s annual conference in Denver. Judges from the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism evaluated 772 entries from 59 publications, including papers in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.

I couldn’t agree more! It’s a fantastic publication with deep insight into the region’s economic happenings. It’s a publication no local business-person should be without.

Efforts to extend location hours over the weekend have not yielded enough donations to provide an adequate supply and meet all our hospitals’ backorders for these types.

Your donation can make a huge difference in the lives of patients in Indiana. Stop by any of our locations or mobiles Monday through Saturday. Help keep our blood supply strong through the summer months.

“You’ll have someone’s undying gratitude.”

I’ve lived in two cities with rapid transit, Vancouver British Columbia and Denver Colorado. In both cities, I moved there before they had rapid transit and in both cities I saw it transform the cities. My employer in Denver actually paid for our transit passes and I loved it. I used to walk to a bus or take the park and ride over to the light rail and then ride the light rail into work.

On the ride, I would make new friends, read the newspaper, catch up on work… and never worry about parking, gas, snow, ice, traffic… it would start my day off perfect. Everyone in those two cities utilized it, whether it was for a football game or a night on the town. I can’t say enough about light rail.

In looking at the growth of the region and our great downtown area, light rail would transform Indianapolis. Fishers and Carmel could relieve the horrific traffic issues they are going through and folks could move further out, taking advantage of the commute being less expensive.

I would urge all of our local readers to take this important survey!

I Choose Indy’s insistent optimism is a bit of an anomaly in the blogosphere. According to its “About” page, its mission is to provide “a great grass-roots resource for folks (re: potential business developers) who might be interested in the region by showing why others chose Indy.” Due to its rah-rah nature, the vibe at I Choose Indy can feel a little kumbaya-ish at times. But dig around and you’re likely to find insightful commentary about why Indy is a better place to live and do business than you might have previously thought. On top of that, it’s a great resource for finding out about Indianapolis-based businesses since so many different local entrepreneurs have contributed to the site.

Thanks, INtake!
